Katherine Elaine Smith, 87, of Gladstone, Missouri passed away May16, 2017 at NKC Hospice after a brief stay in the hospital.
She was born April 10, 1930 in Atchison, Kansas, daughter of Charles and Elaine Smith.

Katherine was a 1947 graduate of Atchison High School. She received her Bachelor's degree in Journalism from Mount St. Scholastica in May 1951 and her master's in Art Education from Kansas University in May 1960.

Katherine was the art supervisor for North Kansas City Schools...

Katherine Elaine Smith, 87, of Gladstone, Missouri passed away May16, 2017 at NKC Hospice after a brief stay in the hospital.
She was born April 10, 1930 in Atchison, Kansas, daughter of Charles and Elaine Smith.

Katherine was a 1947 graduate of Atchison High School. She received her Bachelor's degree in Journalism from Mount St. Scholastica in May 1951 and her master's in Art Education from Kansas University in May 1960.

Katherine was the art supervisor for North Kansas City Schools for 30 years retiring in 1990. She began her teaching career in Kansas for 6 years and then went on to pursue her administration degree, being Maude Ellsworth's grad assistant.

Katherine received many awards in excellence of her art program. She was a 50+ member of Alpha MU and a member of the MRTA since 1990.

In 1964 Katherine purchased her first and only home in Gladstone, Missouri and had lived there for 53 years with the same good neighbors Tom and Connie Land.

Katherine was a 50 year member of St. Charles and recently moved to Holy Family Catholic Church. She was very involved in her church giving of her time and talent. She developed Connecting with Care with Shirley Duello. She was a past member of the Pastoral Council and an active member of The Friendly Club, facilitating for over 10 years.

Katherine was preceded in death by her sister, Jeanne Kelly and niece Janet Kelly. Katherine is survived by her brother, Dr. Bill Smith and his wife Dr. Joyce Smith. 6 nieces and 2 nephews, companion Elaine Simpson and family, extended family Jay and Penny Tobin and Don and George Tobin.

A visitation will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Friday, May 19, 2017 from 9:00 - 10:30 followed by Mass at 10:30. Lunch will be served after mass. Burial to follow mass at 1:00pm.

Donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 919 NE 96th Street, Kansas City, Mo 64155, for the prayer garden memorial.
